Science Syllabus
Homework: Students will not have homework on a regular basis-however, they are expected to read over their notes regularly and study for every announced test and quiz.
Class work: Students will work both independently and in groups during class. Students are expected to work when given the opportunity to complete assignments. Therefore, students must make sure that they participate in class and attempt all work.
Quizzes: Students will be given frequent quizzes in order to assess their knowledge of the content taught. These quizzes will be paper and pencil quizzes as well as online assessments.
Tests: We will have unit tests at the end of each unit. These tests will be comparable to end of grade test questions to help students familiarize themselves with the language and the way that those questions are delivered to the students. These assessments will also be a combination of paper and pencil and online.
Projects: Students will be given at least two projects throughout the year. These projects will be given and described in advance to provide plenty of time for students to complete these projects. Students will be given some time in class to complete these assignments, but please keep in mind that they will NOT have enough time to complete the entire project in class. Some of the work must be completed at home.
Grading Policy:
Summative Assessments: 70% of grade (Unit tests, projects, and presentations)
Formative Assessments: 30% of grade (quizzes, journals, classwork, homework, etc)
Students are required to complete the work as it is assigned. Homework is assigned to help give students practice at the content taught in class each day. Therefore it is crucial that they complete this. Grades are received based on mastery of concepts. Missing assignments are due within 1 weeks of the due date in order to receive credit. Summative assignments may be made up after school after the student has completed the Request to Retest form and 3 activities showing they have worked on learning the concepts better. Parents are required to sign these forms in order for students to stay after school.
Absences: When a student is absent, he or she is responsible for the material that he/she missed. Students will need to not only copy down notes, but also complete the missing work. It is the STUDENTS responsibility to get their make-up work and turn it in the next day unless there are extenuating circumstances. If so, please see me for further assistance.
Tutoring & Re-test: I will be available for tutoring/test re-takes on select afternoons from 3:30-4:30. If students plan on staying, they must have a note that morning in order to stay. All students must have transportation home and be picked up at 4:30. If students are picked up late more than once they will no longer be allowed to stay after school for tutoring.
I am looking forward to working with you and your child this school year. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
